"Horticulture Frontier" Academic Exchange -- Development of Plant synthetic biology Technology and Innovative Application of Germplasm

On October 14, the college invited Zhu Qinlong, a teacher from the School of Life Sciences, to conduct an academic report exchange for us. Wang Huicong presided over the lecture, and some teachers and graduate students from the School of Horticulture attended. Teacher Zhu is mainly engaged in plant synthetic biology and genome editing technology research and germplasm innovation application, and has synthesized anthocyanin and advanced carotenoid astaxanthin in rice endosperm for the first time. Wishing the teacher outstanding scientific research ability and rich scientific research achievements. He has published more than 20 papers on internationally renowned academic journals as the lead author and corresponding author, presided over more than 10 national, provincial and ministerial projects, and won the Gene Engineering Award of the Major General of Science and Technology of Dabei Agriculture, and the only award for outstanding young papers of the Chinese Society of Biotechnology.



Teacher Zhu first introduced synthetic biology. Plant synthetic biology is developed on the basis of plant genetic engineering and transgenic technology, and some research contents of the three are overlapping. In addition to relying on the original gene recombination technology of genetic engineering and plant tissue culture technology to manipulate promoter recombination and foreign gene expression, plant synthetic biology also emphasizes the use of computer, mathematics, chemistry, physics and other interdisciplinary and engineering thinking to realize the de novo design and transformation of plant systems from the system level.



Finally, Professor Zhu explained the application of editing technology. genome editing is an important tool for gene functional analysis and crop improvement.
